PRIZE FRANCESC DAGÀ

(FRANCESC DAGÀ I FOSALBA, Contrabassist)

 

Francesc Dagà I Fosalba was born in Molins of Rei, February 14, 1937. He starts its first musical studies with his father, Jaume Dagà i Vallès, first Fiscor of the orchestra Plana of Martorell. At the age of 18 years, he finishes its studies to the Superior Conservatory of Music from Barcelona Liceu.

At 21 years he integrates in the Orchestre du Grand Théatre du Liceu, until the celebration of the contest, to enter into the Municipal Band of Barcelona, where he obtains the place of 1st contrabassist, that he will occupy during 42 years. Francesc Dagà was also a contrabassist in the Couplet Municipal de Ville de Barcelone.

During his career he offers many recitals with different orchestras, as the one from the Royal Academy Room from Rome , the orchestra of Barcelona City and the Philarmonique orchestra from Barcelona . He played in various occasions in New York , one of them at the time of Kennedy airport inauguration, as in several cities of Europe : Paris , Rome , Munich , and Istanbul . We should notice that his participation to these recitals was essential as a soloist instrument.

Francesc Dagà had a wide repertoire with orchestra and piano, which included from the classical composers to the current works, of which numerous are the one that were composed specially for him.

 

 

 

In 1972 Francesc Dagà obtains a scholarship from The Barcelona Municipality to study at The Conservatory of Salzburg, with the professor Ludwig Streicher, considered as being the best contrabassist player of the world; Francesc Dagà meets the master Streicher in a class to Grenade, and Streicher himself advised him to move to Salzburg in order to improve his German technique. In 1973 he was the only contrabassist player of Spain that played the German technique.

Francesc Dagà died to Molins of Rei October 11 1999. His family wants to pay him a homage by awarding the prize Francesc Dagà, intended for the instrumentists that will participate in the Arjau Musical Contest of Interpretation with an instrument to bow..

The prize Francesc Dagà is endowed with 300 € and will be granted to the competitor or group of competitors that, unattached to the methods and categories, will have pointed out himself by his interpretation with string instrument.
